This is an introductory workshop on the basics of designing and implementing academic service-learning courses at the university level.
This workshop includes the following topics: Definition and core characteristics of academic service-learning; how service-learning relates to experiential learning and to volunteerism; mutual benefit and the impacts of effective service-learning on students and community; designing service-learning courses, including the IPARC/D model (investigation, planning, action, reflection, celebration/demonstration); examples of service-learning at UGA; using L Dee Fink’s model of integrated course design with service-learning; resources available from UGA’s Office of Service-Learning.
All UGA faculty, staff, graduate students, community members, or other interested attendees are welcome.
