Successful volunteer management and engagement are critical to the long-term success of any organization. This Nonprofit Training Series session will cover general best practices in engaging, supporting, recruiting, and recognizing volunteers. Special attention will be focused on managing volunteers during COVID-19 and remote volunteering considerations. During the session Josh will give an overview of the GivePulse platform - which is utilized by the University of Georgia, as well as numerous agencies in the Athens-Clarke County area.

Working Effectively with Community Partners. Developing sustainable and mutually beneficial community partnerships for service-learning is critical for creating positive experiences for both students and partners. This workshop will explore principles and best practices for creating and assessing healthy partnerships, provide tips for preparing students to work in the community, and outline important risk management issues.

Critical Reflection Strategies for Service-Learning. Critical Reflection is an essential component of service-learning course design and the link between service activities students engage in and their academic learning. In this workshop, participants will learn about the fundamentals and best practices of reflection theory and put this into practice through hands-on activities that explore written, verbal, group, and visual reflection activities.

Applications for the 2018 Service-Learning Teaching Excellence and Service-Learning Research Excellence Awards are due Nov. 28, 2018. All full-time, permanent UGA faculty members are eligible for nomination. Awards recognize faculty for innovative service-learning course design as well as scholarship that stems from academic service-learning work. Award recipients receive a $2,500 faculty development award and will be recognized at the annual faculty awards banquet. Nominations by deans and department heads, faculty colleagues, or self-nominations will be accepted.
