In courses that incorporate academic service-learning but are designated as honors, online, writing-intensive, or other suffixes, there can be questions about which suffix is appropriate, since courses are limited to just one suffix (e.g., "H" for honors; "E" for online; "W" for writing-intensive, etc.). Curriculum Systems has recommended that honors courses take the S-suffix and include "Honors" in the title and schedule type, but recommend that online service-learning (for example) should have the E-suffix.
However, a service-learning course that has a different suffix than S can be "tagged" in Banner as having the service-learning (SERV) attribute. In this case, you can include the phrase "service-learning" in the course title and include the service-learning information in the "non-traditional format" field as well as in the topical outline/learning objectives, and it can be tagged as service-learning. Please contact Curriculum Systems for current recommendations and guidance.
