The UGA Office of Service-Learning (OSL) supports academic service-learning and community engagement initiatives designed to enhance students’ civic and academic learning, promote engaged research that is responsive to community needs, and contribute to the public good through mutually beneficial community-university partnerships.

Connecting classroom learning with real world community issues.

The OSL reports jointly to the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and the Vice President for Instruction.

Service-learning helps integrate two core aspects of UGA’s mission—teaching and service—and is explicitly recommended in UGA’s 2010-2025 Strategic Plan. Service-learning is a core part of UGA’s 2025 Strategic Plan as “a great example of the breadth of experiential learning that occurs, as service-learning coursework is available in all 18 schools and colleges, some online courses, study abroad programs, and on the extended campuses. Units across the institution must be committed to growing these and other opportunities for students to serve communities in substantive and impactful ways.” (p. 11)
