Academic coaches have the chance to transform the educational experience for young students in Athens-Clarke County. We believe that by combining the structure and discipline of sports with mentorship, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of these students.

Your primary role is to support the academic and social-emotional growth of students by facilitating the weekly lesson plan.

To ensure a positive and impactful experience, here are the key responsibilities you’ll need to fulfill:

  • Preparation
Studying the lesson plan beforehand will allow you to come prepared to confidently lead the session and engage with students on the day’s topic.
  • Building Relationships
You can build rapport and trust by actively listening and remembering their names and interests, encouraging a space for students to share their own thoughts and feelings.
  • Setting Session Goals
At the beginning of each session, outline the goals for the lesson to ensure the students understand what they are expected to learn and achieve.
  • Engaging Students
Using a mix of discussion, activities, and questions, your enthusiasm for the material will inspire students to stay focused and excited about learning.
  • Making it Fun!
Learning should be an enjoyable experience! Be creative in your delivery and find ways to make the material interactive and entertaining.
